Workshop: Perspective in Oil Painting
July 9-10 | In person or Virtual
About the Workshop
There are many perspective techniques, but the aim of them all is to simply mimic the way that we naturally see.
Join me as we spend two days together exploring perspective as the underlying framework to enhance your paintings. I’ll share my approaches and talk about the intuitive techniques we naturally use in our work. We’ll do a number of quick “mental muscle building” exercises our first day and spend the remainder of our time focused on using perspective as a tool when designing strong composition.
What to Expect
Day 1 – July 9: 9am-4pm
On day one, Stephanie will walk you through a number of “mental muscle building” exercises geared to strengthen drawing accuracy. The remainder of the day will be spent on ways to use perspective as a design element and how to anchor structure successfully into your overall composition. (no more floating houses)
Day 2 – July 10: 9am-4pm
Today reinforces and builds on the techniques learned on day one. Practice, practice, practice is the name of the game now. Stephanie will guide you through additional drawing/”seeing” exercises (she promises you’ll get the hang of it) and when ready, get the guideposts set as you lay in the early stage of your studio piece.
You will leave with tried and true techniques as you revel in a newfound love of horizon lines and vanishing points.
*Artists also have the opportunity to bring in existing work and receive valuable feedback from Stephanie in a supportive group critique setting.
